
Indian Railways has expanded its network capable of supporting speeds of 110 kmph from 31,445 km in 2014 to 84,244 km, covering about 80% of the rail network. Track renewal remains a key focus, with 6,851 km renewed in 2024-25 and over 7,500 km underway in 2025-26. Plans include renewing 7,900 km in 2026-27. Improvements also include turnout renewals and mechanised deep screening of ballast to enhance safety and ride quality.
