The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) is unlikely to purchase cotton from Tamil Nadu farmers this year due to unmet procurement norms. These norms include a minimum of 3,000 hectares of cotton cultivation per taluk, and the presence of a ginning factory and market center. While Tamil Nadu has identified potential procurement locations, the lack of nearby ginning factories and quality verification systems are cited as obstacles. In contrast, states like Andhra Pradesh meet these criteria, allowing CCI to procure cotton at Minimum Support Price (MSP) and support farmers.
