Bangladesh has approved a fresh import of 2 lakh metric tonnes of non-aromatic parboiled rice by private companies, adding to its existing plan to import around 9 lakh tonnes in the 2025-26 fiscal year to replenish stocks after flood-related losses. Indian rice millers and exporters, particularly from Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, welcomed the move, citing rising rice prices in Bangladesh and the opportunity to expand exports. Importers must sell rice in original packaging and report transactions to prevent hoarding.
