Indian Railways has implemented a second passenger fare hike this year, effective December 26, 2025, impacting long-distance travel. Fares for ordinary non-AC services increase in graded slabs (Rs 5-20 for journeys over 215 km), while Mail and Express trains see a uniform increase of 1-2 paise per kilometre across AC and non-AC classes. Suburban services and season tickets remain unaffected. The revision aims to balance passenger affordability with operational sustainability and is projected to generate Rs 600-700 crore in additional revenue.
