
The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority (SMPA) at Kolkata Port conducted its first-ever night pilotage on February 25, navigating the container vessel Sinar Pangalam Susu through the challenging Upper Reaches of the Hooghly River. This follows a successful trial in May 2025 and aims to enable 24/7 vessel movement, reduce turnaround times, optimize berth use, ease congestion, and enhance cargo handling efficiency, reinforcing Kolkata's role as a key riverine port.
