NTPC plans to establish a coal-to-synthetic natural gas (SNG) facility in Talaipalli, Chhattisgarh, with an estimated investment of Rs 10,000 crore. The project aims to produce 5 lakh tonnes of SNG annually using high-ash Indian coal from NTPC's captive mines. The company is seeking technology tie-ups for processes like coal beneficiation and gasification, with technology finalization expected by the last quarter of FY26. This initiative, led by NTPC's R&D wing NETRA, aligns with its vision of sustainable coal utilization and carbon capture technologies.
