A report by market intelligence firm Lightstone indicates that nearly half of all passenger vehicles sold in South Africa in the first five months of 2025 have Indian connections. This includes vehicles manufactured by Indian companies like Mahindra and Tata, as well as those produced in India for Japanese and Korean brands. In 2024, vehicles imported from India accounted for 36% of total sales, nearly matching locally produced vehicles at 37%, while Chinese imports were 11%. Mahindra has become a significant player, particularly with its Pikup series.
