The number of ATMs in India saw a moderate decline in FY25, falling to 2,51,057 from 2,53,417 the previous year, according to an RBI report. This decrease, observed in both public and private sector banks, is attributed to the rise in digital payments reducing customer reliance on ATMs. Conversely, independently run white label ATMs increased. Despite the ATM decline, bank branches expanded by over 2%, with public sector banks leading new openings, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.
