India's New Standard Defines 'Diamond' as Natural Stone, Regulates Lab-Grown Disclosure

India's Bureau of Indian Standards has introduced IS 19469:2025, a new framework reserving the term 'diamond' exclusively for natural stones to enhance consumer protection and transparency. The standard mandates clear disclosure of laboratory-grown diamonds using full terms like 'laboratory-grown diamond' and prohibits misleading language or abbreviations.
