
Louis Gerstner, the former CEO and chairman credited with revitalizing IBM, has died at age 83. Gerstner, who joined IBM in 1993 from RJR Nabisco, was the first outsider to lead the company. During his tenure, he is widely recognized for transforming IBM from a struggling tech giant into a business services powerhouse, significantly increasing its stock value. He retired as CEO in 2002 and later chaired the Carlyle Group. Gerstner also authored books and was involved in educational philanthropy.
