The National Housing Bank (NHB) has expressed concern over the slow disbursement of funds under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) 2.0 scheme. During a meeting with housing finance companies (HFCs), NHB urged lenders to increase their participation and recalibrate risk assessment frameworks. While the government has identified over 1.8 million potential beneficiaries, HFCs cite higher repayment risks and stress in smaller loan segments, particularly below Rs 5 lakh, as reasons for sluggish uptake. NHB aims to expand credit access to smaller borrowers, contrasting with current disbursements favoring larger loans.
