Australia issued an advisory warning travelers about counterfeit rabies vaccines (Abhayrab) circulating in India since November 2023, potentially leaving recipients unprotected. Indian manufacturer Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL) clarified that the issue pertains to a single batch (KA24014) identified in January 2025 due to a packaging anomaly. IIL stated this counterfeit batch is no longer available, was an isolated incident, and that all vaccines procured through authorized channels are safe and quality-tested. They urged Australia to review its advisory, deeming it overly cautious and potentially causing public mistrust.
