Western Railway plans to nearly double its train handling capacity by 2030, focusing on Mumbai and five other major cities. This expansion, part of a national program, aims to improve punctuality and reduce congestion through terminal upgrades, signaling improvements, and new infrastructure. In the Mumbai region alone, WR intends to introduce approximately 65 additional long-distance trains and augment existing services, supported by significant infrastructure projects like the Mumbai Central-Borivali 6th line.
