The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has taken suo motu action against 13 e-commerce platforms, including Amazon, Flipkart, Meta (Facebook Marketplace), and Meesho, for listing and selling unauthorised walkie-talkies. These devices operated outside the permitted 446.0-446.2 MHz frequency band without mandatory Equipment Type Approval (ETA) or proper licensing disclosures, violating consumer protection and telecom laws. The CCPA imposed penalties totaling Rs 44 lakh, with major platforms fined Rs 10 lakh each. Some entities have paid, while others await payment. The authority directed platforms to ensure compliance and conduct regular audits to prevent future violations.
