RBI Opens Early Redemption for Sovereign Gold Bonds with Notable Gains

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has opened early redemption windows for two Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) series: 2020-21 Series IV from January 14, 2026, and 2019-20 Series II from January 16, 2026. Investors can redeem bonds at Rs 13,929 and Rs 14,092 per unit respectively, reflecting gains of approximately 185% and over 309% compared to their issue prices. Redemption proceeds will be credited directly to investors' bank accounts, with interest income taxable under Indian law.
