
A 3,563-carat purple star sapphire named "Star of Pure Land" was unveiled in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and is claimed to be the world's largest natural purple star sapphire. Discovered in 2023 near Rathnapura, the gem features a distinctive six-ray asterism and has been certified by two laboratories. Owned by an anonymous team, it is valued between $300 million and $400 million by international experts. Sri Lankan sapphires are noted for their unique color, clarity, and shimmer.
