The cost of India's Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project is projected to nearly double to approximately Rs 1.98 lakh crore, according to Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar. This revised estimate, awaiting final Cabinet approval, significantly exceeds the initial Rs 1.08 lakh crore. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is not providing additional funds for the cost overrun, which the Indian government will cover. The project, India's first bullet train, has faced delays and is now expected to be fully completed by 2029, with the first operational stretch planned for August 15, 2027.
