From April 1, 2026, India mandates E20 petrol with a minimum 95 Research Octane Number (RON) nationwide, replacing lower-octane fuels. The ethanol blend aims to reduce emissions, cut crude oil imports, and support farmers. While E20 petrol offers higher octane and improved performance for modern vehicles, concerns exist for older, non-E20-compliant models, which may face fuel system corrosion and reduced efficiency. Ethanol-free high-octane fuels like XP100 and Power100 are considered alternatives for such vehicles.
