India's power distribution utilities collectively posted a profit of Rs 2,701 crore in FY25, reversing years of losses since the unbundling and corporatization of State Electricity Boards. This improvement follows government reforms including the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme and amendments to electricity rules. Key performance indicators also improved, with Aggregate Technical Commercial losses declining from 22.62% in FY14 to 15.04% in FY25, and the cost-revenue gap narrowing significantly. Outstanding dues to generating companies fell by 96%, reflecting enhanced financial health in the sector.
