Guinea plans to contest a $28.9 billion arbitration claim filed by bauxite miner Axis International Ltd. The UAE-based company's permit was revoked in May for alleged violations of the mining and tax codes. Guinea's Minister of Mines stated Axis failed to conduct mining operations directly and was improperly subcontracting. Axis International, a significant bauxite producer, has submitted its claim to the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes. This dispute occurs as Guinea seeks to attract mining investment and increase resource revenue.
