
Indian manufacturers are seeking approval to sell 6mg oral nicotine pouches, a strength significantly higher than current limits, by classifying them as therapeutic nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) products. This move has raised concerns among policymakers and public health experts about potential nicotine initiation and addiction, especially as the government campaigns against tobacco use. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation is evaluating these proposals and consulting with the health ministry's Tobacco Control Division.
