
Huang Xuanni, a 44-year-old woman from rural Binzhou, Hunan province, overcame childhood neglect and abandonment in a family favoring sons to build a successful fashion brand. After facing hardships including a difficult marriage and business debts, she launched an e-commerce store on Taobao in 2015. Her brand, Mix Selection, specializing in neo-Chinese dresses, grew rapidly, generating around US$36 million in annual sales by 2025 with nearly two million followers worldwide.
