Kerala Launches Community-Owned Battery Storage Pilot in Perinjanam

Kerala has launched a pilot community-owned battery energy storage system in Perinjanam panchayat, Thrissur, with a Rs 2-crore investment and expected commissioning by May 2026. This decentralized storage aims to address the state's reliance on imported electricity and the mismatch between solar generation and peak demand. The initiative, inspired by challenges during the 2018 floods, integrates community management and supports Kerala's renewable energy and electric mobility goals.
