Meghalaya's traditional ryndia silk fabric has received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, recognized by the Ministry of Textiles as a key success for India's textile sector in 2025. This recognition highlights ryndia's contribution to rural livelihoods and sustainable practices. The ministry noted India's overall growth as the world's second-largest silk producer, with increased raw silk output, improved productivity, and higher cocoon prices benefiting farmers and boosting employment, particularly for women.
