India generates approximately 350 million tonnes of agricultural residues annually, which have the potential to produce over 18,000 MW of power each year. These residues can also be converted into nutrient-rich organic fertilisers that improve soil health and reduce reliance on chemical inputs. Government initiatives, including financial support and deployment of machinery, aim to promote sustainable residue management and circular economy practices, addressing environmental concerns like greenhouse gas emissions and pollution from improper waste disposal.
