A report by market intelligence firm Lightstone indicates that approximately 50% of cars sold in South Africa in 2025 have connections to India, either through manufacturing by Indian companies like Mahindra and Tata or by containing Indian-made components. While Chinese brands are visible, India is the primary source of imported vehicles, accounting for 36% of sales in 2024. This figure rises to nearly half of the passenger vehicle market in early 2025, surpassing locally produced vehicles.
