
South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), a Coal India subsidiary, has identified seven mine dumps in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh for potential rare earth element (REE) extraction. The tendering process for exploration has begun, with plans to scientifically assess these overburden dumps within a year to determine viable sites. This initiative supports the government's goal to utilize coal mine waste and reduce dependence on REE imports, critical for sectors like electronics, renewable energy, and defense.
