
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has received an excise demand order of Rs 1,816.65 crore from the Commissioner of Central Tax and Central Excise, Kochi. The amount includes Rs 476.94 crore in excise duty, Rs 1,339.70 crore in interest, and a Rs 95,000 penalty. The demand relates to 19 show cause notices concerning valuation disputes linked to Kochi Refineries Limited's pre-merger period from 2004 to 2006. BPCL plans to appeal the order before the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT).
