Texas currently holds over $622 million in unclaimed cash belonging to 5.7 million individuals. These funds, derived from forgotten paychecks, utility deposits, and dormant accounts, are safeguarded indefinitely by the state. Officials estimate that approximately one in four Texans may have unclaimed property. The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts urges residents to check for these assets, which can include bank deposits, uncashed checks, and insurance payouts, as life changes often lead to funds going unclaimed.
