An Inter-Departmental Committee (IDC), chaired by the DFS Secretary, reviewed Reserve Bank of India proposals concerning foreign banks establishing branches, representative offices, or subsidiaries in India. The committee recommended the proposals after consulting with the Home, External Affairs, and Commerce ministries. This comes as the number of foreign banks operating in India and their branches has seen a gradual decline in recent years.
