Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched Bharat Taxi on February 5, 2026, India's first cooperative-based ride-hailing platform. Operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited and backed by eight major cooperative organizations, Bharat Taxi offers a zero-commission, surge-free model where drivers, called Sarathis, are co-owners paying a fixed daily fee. The platform aims to provide lower fares—up to 30% cheaper than private competitors like Ola and Uber—while ensuring driver welfare through insurance and social security. After a successful pilot in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat with over 3 lakh drivers and 10,000 daily rides, Bharat Taxi plans nationwide expansion within two years.
