
Larsen & Toubro (L T) has secured a significant order worth Rs 1,000-2,500 crore from the Department of Atomic Energy to build the LIGO India Observatory in Aundha, Hingoli district, Maharashtra. The project involves engineering, procurement, and construction of vibration-sensitive, high-precision civil infrastructure, including an 8-km ultra-high vacuum beam tube and critical vacuum equipment. Developed in collaboration with Indian research institutions and US partners, the observatory aims to detect gravitational waves and is expected to be completed within 48 months.
