The Indian government has directed all domestic oil refiners to maximise liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production by prioritising the use of propane and butane streams for this purpose. LPG supplies are to be sold exclusively to three state-run companies—Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum—which must ensure distribution only to domestic consumers. Refiners are also barred from diverting propane and butane for petrochemical production. This move aims to secure household cooking fuel availability amid global energy uncertainties linked to the West Asia conflict and supply disruptions.
