India Invokes Emergency Powers to Boost LPG Production Amid West Asia Energy Crisis

Amid escalating tensions in West Asia and disruptions to energy supplies, the Indian government has invoked emergency powers to direct all oil refiners to maximise liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production. Refiners are instructed to use propane and butane exclusively for LPG and supply it only to three state-run companies—Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum—which must prioritise domestic consumers. The order prohibits diverting these components for petrochemical production to safeguard household cooking fuel availability amid global uncertainties.
