Bharat Taxi, a government-backed cooperative ride-hailing service, is set for a nationwide launch by the end of January following a successful pilot in Delhi. The app, operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Ltd and supported by major cooperative institutions, aims to reduce driver dependence on private companies by offering a zero-commission model. During its soft launch, the service recorded an average of 5,500 daily rides, with over 1.4 lakh drivers registered. Bharat Taxi will compete with existing platforms like Ola and Uber, promising fixed, transparent fares and fairer earnings for drivers.
