Government Upholds Supreme Court AGR Mandate and Maintains SIM Binding Rules

Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia affirmed that the government will adhere to the Supreme Court's mandate on Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues, offering no fresh relief beyond the court's framework. He also confirmed that SIM binding rules for OTT messaging apps, including the mandatory six-hour logout for web sessions, will remain unchanged, emphasizing national security priorities. The Department of Telecommunications has ruled out extending the February 28, 2026 compliance deadline, despite industry concerns over user experience disruptions.
