Delhi-Katra Expressway Construction Resumes, Completion Expected by March 2027

The Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, National Expressway 5, is scheduled for completion by March 2027, according to the National Highways Authority of India. Construction faced delays last year due to Operation Sindoor, security concerns, and heavy rains that damaged infrastructure. Once finished, the expressway will reduce the Delhi-Katra distance from 727 to 588 km, cutting travel time from 14 to about six hours. It aims to enhance regional connectivity, support religious tourism by linking key pilgrimage sites, and improve mobility for armed forces.
