On January 14 and 15, 2026, banks across India will observe holidays in various states due to harvest festivals like Makar Sankranti, Magh Bihu, Pongal, and Lohri, as per the Reserve Bank of India's calendar under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Banks will be closed in states such as Gujarat, Odisha, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh on these dates. Despite branch closures, digital banking and ATM services will remain operational. Concurrently, schools in several states are closed due to these festivals, extended winter breaks, or cold wave alerts, particularly in northern regions like Punjab and Delhi.
