The Indian government has awarded 12 Government Approved Test Centre (GATC) certificates to 11 private companies to enhance the metrology sector. This initiative aims to increase the availability and efficiency of verifying weights and measuring instruments, ensuring consumer protection and facilitating business compliance. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi distributed the certificates, following a digital application process. The move allows qualified private labs to join government facilities in testing various instruments, enabling legal metrology officials to focus more on inspections and consumer complaints.
