During the Makar Sankranti festival, multiple fatal and serious injuries across India have been linked to banned kite strings known as 'Chinese manjha,' made of nylon coated with glass or metallic particles. Incidents in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab involved riders and pedestrians suffering deep cuts, some resulting in deaths, including a doctor in Jaunpur and a man in Bidar. Despite bans and enforcement efforts, these hazardous strings remain in use, prompting police crackdowns and public warnings to prevent further accidents.
