
A National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court in Guwahati has sentenced Md. Kamruj Zaman, also known as Kamaruddin, to life imprisonment for establishing a module of the Pakistan-based Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terror outfit in Assam. He was convicted for orchestrating a plan to recruit members and carry out terrorist activities between 2017-18. Zaman received three concurrent sentences under anti-terror laws, including a fine and additional imprisonment for default. The case involved recruiting several individuals, some of whom pleaded guilty.
