Eight police personnel, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police, have been granted bail by a north Kashmir court in connection with an alleged custodial torture case at the Joint Interrogation Centre in Kupwara. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested the officers following a Supreme Court directive for a probe into the alleged illegal detention and torture of a constable in February 2023, which reportedly led to his castration. The court imposed conditions on the bail, including furnishing bonds and restricting travel.
