The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has again taken software engineer Zubair Hangargekar into custody until January 3. Hangargekar, arrested in October for alleged links to Al-Qaeda and suspected radicalization, is being investigated for extremist discussions and preaching against democracy. The ATS is probing Telegram IDs from Afghanistan and Hong Kong found in his account, as well as past congregations and 'sports camps' in Thane. Previously, Hangargekar was in judicial custody after an initial 18-day ATS remand.
