Police have stated that an attack on an Odisha youth in Tiruttani was not motivated by his north Indian identity, contrary to some claims. An Inspector-General of Police indicated the incident stemmed from a dispute after the victim questioned individuals staring at him. The youth was attacked with a sickle, and a video of the assault was circulated. Medical assistance was provided, and a case under attempt to murder charges has been registered.
