Punjab-Haryana High Court Seeks Punjab DGP's Affidavit on Gurdaspur Encounter Death

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the February 25 police encounter in Gurdaspur that resulted in the death of 19-year-old Ranjit Singh, accused in the killing of two police personnel. The court summoned Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav to submit an affidavit by March 17 detailing the incident. While police maintain procedures and NHRC guidelines were followed, Ranjit's family alleges a fake encounter and demands an independent investigation, refusing to cremate his body until their demands, including murder charges against involved officers, are met.
