The wife of a retired IPS officer, Urmila, lost Rs 2.58 crore to cyber fraudsters who lured her with promises of high stock market returns. Scammers, posing as financial experts and using fake profit screenshots, convinced her to invest via a specific app. She made 19 transactions between December 24, 2025, and January 5, 2026, reportedly mortgaging gold to fund the investments. When withdrawal options were disabled, she realized it was a scam and reported it to cybercrime police.
