Seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the January 7 murder of Soma Munda, a tribal village head and 2024 assembly election candidate from Jharkhand's Khunti district. Munda was shot while returning home with his wife, following a dispute over 3.16 acres of land in Jiarappa village. Authorities say the conflict involved attempts by Devbrat Nath Shahdeo to sell the land, traditionally used for the Padha Jatra Mela, which Munda and villagers opposed. A manhunt continues for additional suspects.
