Jalandhar Police Arrest Key Accused in Village Sarpanch Attack After Encounter

Police in Jalandhar arrested Sukhjit Singh, one of five accused in the attempted murder of village sarpanch Mahinder Singh, following a brief encounter in Mehatpur. The attack on February 28 involved sharp weapons and left the sarpanch seriously injured. During a checkpoint on March 4, Singh, riding a motorcycle with a broken number plate, fired at police and was shot in the leg before being detained. Authorities recovered an illegal pistol, ammunition, and the motorcycle, and have registered FIRs related to both the attack and the encounter.
