Maoist Leader Kills Commander Over Surrender Plan in Odisha's Kandhamal District

Anvesh, a Maoist divisional committee member and military platoon commander with a Rs 22-27.5 lakh bounty, was killed by senior Maoist leader Sukru in Odisha's Kandhamal district on January 29. Anvesh planned to surrender along with about a dozen cadres, but internal opposition from Sukru and associates led to his murder and burial in a forest. Police exhumed the body following intelligence reports and registered a case. The incident highlights internal rifts within Maoist ranks over surrendering amid ongoing anti-Naxal operations.
