Mother Convicted for Toddler's Murder in Kannur; Co-accused Acquitted

The Additional Sessions Court in Taliparamba, Kannur, convicted Saranya for the murder of her one-and-a-half-year-old son, Viyan, whom she killed by throwing into the sea near her home in February 2020. The court found the prosecution proved the murder charge beyond reasonable doubt. Saranya's male friend, Nidhin, was acquitted due to insufficient evidence linking him to conspiracy or abetment. Saranya pleaded for leniency citing mental stress and lack of support before sentencing.
